Homemade Enchilada Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable stock
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and stir together over the heat for one minute.
- Mix in the seasonings – Add the chili powder, garlic powder, salt, cumin, and oregano. Stir together for about 30 seconds.
- Add the stock slowly, whisking constantly to remove lumps. Reduce heat and simmer 10-15 minutes until thick.
- Taste and adjust the seasonings, if necessary. The sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Use immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week.
